Something to keep in mind is that while there are large swaths of cloud cover, not all clouds are created equal. There are areas that have significant cloud cover forecast, but very negligible cloud thickness (the amount of sunlight that is blocked.) While not ideal, these areas can still make out pretty well.
Illinois and Indiana have a significant amount of cloud cover, but very little in the way of cloud thickness on the short term models.
Same goes for Plattsburgh and Burlington
Of course Maine is still the better viewing area.
Cleveland is mixed on both counts but just to the west the cloud thickness really drops off the cliff
Western NY has substantial coverage as well as thickness.
If you are mobile you definitely want to follow the latest short term forecast to find an area of clearing, but if not many locations still have a decent shot despite cloud coverage.
