You can always ask politely. You don't have to specify a reason, though usually one is given as otherwise it is strange.
Things to ensure: (This is the same when you're trying to sit with family or any other reason.)
1) The seat you are asking them to switch to is the same or better than what they are in.
2) Be ready for and accept a no. Even if it seems they have no reason to refuse and are just doing it to be spiteful, they have every right to be, and there might be a reason for that preference that you don't realize. If you absolutely cannot fly sitting next to a woman you need to purchase two seats.

The term Ultra Orthodox is a slur, I would not use it. He *is* C/Hareidi, visibly so. He's just not the type of C/Hareidi who would not sit next to a woman on a plane.

This nuance highlights her racism. She stereotyped and painted with a broad brush because of a faulty assumption based on his clothing. (Ironically, it is the same racism that led us to disbelieve her story, but I digress). That's the point that should be made. She was a racist bigot who became so enraged that I believe she truly believes she is telling the truth, and that everyone else is lying. She is so convinced of the false story she invented, she has yet to be able (and will likely never be able) to just stop and think through what happened and realize it was all a misunderstanding on her part.

I'm not so sure.
I saw others were blocked, but I was only blocked later on, in the minutes after I tagged her in a comment. She totally could be doom-scrolling through her mentions and blocking everyone calling her out.

That same newscast had an earlier segment, starting about 14:15, showing men and women who dissuade women from getting on a bus, or tell them to sit in the back.  So the listeners are primed to believe the plane story, which comes towards the end of the broadcast.
