R' Aaron Fogel told me that one time he was wearing slippers on a flight from TLV and someone actually came over to him and asked him why. He told him that it is in case the flight goes far enough north that it misses days or nights and maybe it was Yom Kippur. I think he said he was holding a drink at the time but that may just be an embellishment somewhere along the line.

A- do i get the full cash refund, or does the points part come back as points?

Amex usually credits points purchases back as a statement credit IME, so you'd have to get them to re-charge your card to essentially buy back your points.


35% will almost certainly be clawed back.
