All correct.

Online booking you can get credit for cheaper.

That’s not an option for travel agency booking. Instead, agency booking has option to pay cancellation fee ($100-$400, depending on cabin and route) and then rebook for cheaper.

Is there any way around this issue?

I was running late for my flight.
When we got to checkin, the agent refused to take our bag, saying it was too late. (She knew our flight was delayed.)
I just had something similar, arrived at (updated) baggage cutoff time for delayed flight, there was not a living soul at the desks, had to get rid of the bag and fly only with carry on.
Is that common accross all airlines?
The chiddush of DDF is the way Dan Deals with all us crazies 🤪

international.  kids ticket is 10% of price at time of booking.  Now is a good price. Baby iy"H born in 4 months, for flight in 6 months.  Price will likely be higher.

Anyone else?

Pretty sure you can book as infant/Last name now and change the name later. Which airline?

A relative of mine just flew UA19 from EWR to MXP on Monday 8/16

The flight was supposed to depart at 7:10 from EWR but was delayed due to mechanical issues. They boarded around 10 pm but did not actually leave till after 12. (the status shows 11:20 but that was probably when it left the gate) and upon arrival, they did not get a gate right away and actually were taken off on the tarmac and bussed to the terminal.

What would be the typical compensation I can try to get for him?

I bought a ticket NYC-TLV on United.  the flight is still 3 months out and the ticket price dropped $82. Can I get a refund for the difference?  It's economy T, can I cancel the ticket, get a full flight credit and rebook?
