I feel like the average nowadays is $20-$25 and for a good cut $30+. My guy consistently went up about $2 every year.
Maybe it's time to switch Professions?  ;)
In Lakewood the going rate is $14, great cuts (i.e Mr. Clipper- and I have absolutely no connection to them)

Caplan Cuts is $16. I was happy with them.

$25-$30 does sound expensive. That sounds like covid private appointment with sanitizing between haircuts pricing.

When you get married do you tip the person officiating the wedding?

Highly culturally dependent, among Orthodox Jewish circles. In some places it is considered one of the standard roles of a synagogue Rabbi to officiate at congregant weddings, and there is a standard amount given (which is as much a part of the Rabbi's salary as it is a "tip"). It would be a big breach to have an outsider officiate in those circles. In other circles, it is a big honor given to the rabbi most influential in the groom's life, or a reverted relative. It would be considered quite rude and insulting to give a tip or payment in those circles.

The 'tip' is usually in the form of a donation to the congregational rabbi's discretionary fund which is spent on charity, communal projects, etc. The money is very rarely kept as income unless the couple do not affiliate with a congregation and thus don't pay dues. In the case of an unaffiliated couple, there's no 'tip'. The officiant and couple agree on a set fee/honorarium. I've seen a range of $500-$1500 depending on the complexity of the event and the couple's means.

Curious to hear input. I drive into NYC several times a week for most of the day and park in a garage for the day. It costs about $30-35 per day. How much would you tip each day? Hoping to settle an argument with a colleague  ;D

What do people tip their child’s Rebbe/Morah these days and when throughout the year? (I understand boys and girls and different ages are all different, curious what normal is.)

Maybe I should make an (anonymous) poll?

I tip the -
Rebbe $175, 2wice a year (Chanukah/Purim)
Assistant Rabbis $75, same
Menahal (principal) $75, same
Though I know it’s to the higher side, and I’m absolutely not rich & not even balbatish, but they well deserve it!

I can tell you one thing. (I am not that old) But growing up, our parents never tipped the teachers.

My guess is that I am older than you, but my parents absolutely gave money to my rabbeim. This minhag is mentioned hundreds of years ago.

Here in Israel, at least where i live, the minhag is to tip the rebbis 100 shekel w/ a nice Mishloach Manos for Purim. Many give Rosh Hashanah/Sukkos something as well.

I am old. I don't remember giving gifts to teachers when I was a kid.  But for my kids, the PTA collected for a chanuka gift. This was to replace the 25 pieces of junk she got from individual parents.  Or most likely, the 18 gifties from 25 kids.

I give the rebbi before the year, and depending how much my son likes yeshiva I give accordingly throughout the year. I probably give more than average, but I believe it definitely makes a difference. Especially when the rebbi knows "that parent" will take care of him.... His teacher i try to give by purim around $100 (and chanukah contribute whatever the class is arranging)

Your question is very much applicable in many scenarios throughout your day to day life and not just 10-12 times a year when you get a haircut.
From Instacrt, Walmart+, UPS drivers, Amazon drivers, Target shipt, food delivery(aka, grubhub, doordash, uberEats) car service, garbage men, pharmacy, nail salon, valet parking and and everyone else in-between.
Honestly there's probably times you can sense that this guy deserves a tip, and then there's times like going into a café where you pick up your food from the counter and they're tacking on an 18% tip, cc fee and tax. That's where you go bonkers and start complaining about the tips.   So it's a 2-way street.   Yes, sometimes it's being abused, and sometimes where you're supposed to tip, you're not.
Should be in this thread.
