FTR, I'm not debating your core argument here. I just don't think you can use these lists --which don't take into consideration the unique needs of the frum community-- as proof of anything. I don't care what the median home price is in the whole metro area, I care what it is in the specific neighborhood(s) I would live in.
They list $410k for NYC. I don't know if you can even get a studio apt for that in Crown Heights these days. You're not getting a house for less than a million without venturing out into the, for lack of a better word, "darker" parts of town.
