Of course there is nothing heretical believing if someone’s mashiach even if they aren’t alive. It’s the shevil stuff that’s a red flag.

And the כוס של אליהו. But Eliyahu is an exception and the reason for his appearance at every bris and ever seder table is so poetic and beautiful.

Correct, that hachtaras hamelech requires the declaration and spread of that message.

Another thing that gets people nervous: Infallibility.

My impression is that the Rebbe is infallible isn’t limited to meshichists, CMIIW. Being fallible is part of being mortal.

Perhaps this isn’t specific to Lubavitch, it can be an issue by other groups, even litvish by the extreme “Daas Torah” types. But my impression is that it’s more of a developed idea by Lubavitchers.
