The union couldn't care less if teachers are fired, if not for the fact that membership and associated membership-dues income will go down. I've been working with unions for several decades, and the ONLY thing they care about is their own pockets.

Seems like the tuition relief bill is in serious peril, and would need a miracle to pass. It garnered a lot of attention, and thus the opposition of the progressives, including the powerful teacher’s union.

A few points.

1. It's possible that this is just the first bill, and more could be coming. All he needs is one bill to pass and we get relief. It can be framed and structured in many different ways.

2. Opposition was expected. The teachers union does not want any money going to private schools, because they want every available dollar to go into the public school system. The point was that despite opposition, they can try to get it passed if they have a strong enough coalition.

3. Following point 2, there is a pretty wide coalition here. It's not just Jews pushing this forward, it's Muslims and Hispanics also speaking up.

Well-written article. accurately points to the funding formula and ELL and doesn't go for the blood libel of blaming the Jews. The article shows where this is an issue across the state (Brick, Lacey etc. Not exactly Jewish hotbeds). Jackson has been dealing with a large influx of Spanish-speaking families which is which is largely driving the ELL issue.

Vine Street opened today between Pine and Cedarbridge. I’m willing to bet this turns Cedarbridge into a parking lot at peak times.

 Gotta love the literal turning lane to nowhere these geniuses created by Cedarbridge and MLK. Only the government could spend tens of thousands to take away a shoulder that was functional for cars to make a right turn on red to MLK and instead put in a left turning lane that is unused because it goes… straight into a concrete curb! Didn’t anyone notice as they were doing the work? Government at its best. 

I’m just trying to picture the guys striping the turning lanes.

“Hey Bob, (stares at the plans and scratches head) maybe we should speak to the engineer guys before we stripe this?”

“Listen Mike, they ain’t payin’ us to ask no questions. They pay us to work. They want a turning lane, let’s paint ‘em a turning lane.”
