Since when did that ever stop you from expecting a yes or no answer? :P
Where is the question? In a different thread?

Someone I met this week told me his father is a patient of Dr. Zelenko's and received 2 doses of the Moderna vaccine upon his advice. Who wudda thunk?

Should they ask their PCP or just look at all the info from numerous experts in the field out there?
Ask their PCP.

Look, if somebody uses a specific doctor they trust then they should generally follow their advice unless they have reason to doubt them. Should that occur, they're better suited switching doctors then ignoring their advice because they think they know better.

Zelenko appears to be a quack, but if you're using him then keep following his advice as long as you do.

Not picking a side here, but curious what sort of legitimate reasons not to vaccinate are out there that would be discussed with a PCP and not a specialist? And how many of the people who are being told by their PCP not to vaccinate are getting personalized advice, as opposed to that PCP generally not being quick to advise vaccinating?

Perhaps a young boy with recent history of infection should wait before vaccinating, or only take one dose? I believe most PCPs would advise taking at least one dose in almost every case, but it's good to ask your PCP any medical questions you have (even though we all know most PCPs would recommend vaccination as a no brainer).

I know a couple of people who were told to wait on the vaccine as they had high antibodies.

These are both very broad situations - not at all what I thought we were talking about when referring to personalized care/advice. I was thinking more unique situations, hence the specialist comment.

Generally speaking, I agree that it's good to have a family doctor or PCP you turn to for all your medical guidance. But I could see where regarding covid and vaccines, some people might be questioning whether they trust their doctor anymore based on what they hear and read (this cuts both ways obviously).

This conversation got sidetracked - the pcp gave general advice since the individual had antibodies they were told not to vaccinate. There is no custom tailored advice to this individual. I don't see why anyone with a general question like that would go to their pcp for advice. There are a lot bigger experts and studies dealing with this situation. I don't know what you think a pcp is - but I probably read and saw alot more studies in regard to covid than they did. They are extremely busy working the whole day do you think they have time to read all the different things that come out? Eventually they get to most things but that takes time. I spent the last year and half looking at covid articles and studies, they had the same year and a half and they're alot busier than me. I agree in other areas I may want their opinion but with covid I was able to formulate my own by reading from all the studies and experts.. my child's pcp the other day is busy telling me to get the vaccine even though I'm still showing antibodies based on - I assume he was going to show the study with people that got vacinated were better off even with a previously getting covid. But I know that study was done before the delta strain was dominant I know that there is no data on their antibody levels I know it doesn't say if any of them were hospitalized..

Prior allergic reaction to components of the vaccine.

Is there a chance your PCP has a better grasp of medicine, better study interpretation skills, and is better at choosing high quality source material than you are?

Wouldn't they be working with an allergist in that scenario?

unfortunately, I'm not convinced so. Had they read just as much as me yeah I would trust them more than myself but I don't believe they get even close

Not necessarily.  The PCP should have access to records of previous vaccines and allergies. Patient might just know they reacted to a particular shot, but not know the components of the vaccine, which the physician should be able to look up.

Let me put it this way. Do you know of anyone that has had a serious allergic reaction of any kind that doesn't have an allergist that they go to?

I enjoy reading medical news and studies. One of the (many) calamities that came out of this pandemic is that every Chaim Yankel now thinks that he's Meilich Firer or Shuki Berman, and he's fluent in medical literature and research.

Anyone who believes that years of study and experience can be replaced by the reading of some newspaper items and a quick perusing of medical studies is deluding themselves. I overhear laypeople in shul espousing strong opinions about things related to my profession, and I just sit there and nod - while inside I'm laughing. They find a nugget of truth and extrapolate hilariously from that; they don't even know what they don't know. So to think reading a couple news articles and/or medical studies as a layperson can somehow make one more knowledgeable than a doctor is laughable. A doctor knows how to parse medical studies and data in ways that a layman cannot.
