If the lard, tallow, or fish oil is nosen taam l'fgam on the popcorn, it would be batel. Is there anything processed at these factories that wouldn't be nosen taam l'fgam when used for popcorn? I don't think they're processing bacon grease

But as was mentioned before, it is very unclear that they are pogem. Also the precessing plant can very well be precessing bacon fat or ghee.

The case in the article was that kosher oil was used today. The concern is that non kosher oil was used in the past. That oil would now be נטל"פ. This is comparable to the תורת חטאת vis a vis the nuts in Krakow.
However, it is highly unlikely that non kosher oil was ever used. לא מיבעיא in countries where all vegetable oil is considered kosher, but even in USA where there is no such policy, the primary brands seem to all be kosher. There is no incentive for a popcorn stand to use a niche oil.

He seems to be concerned that you didn't definitively establish that, as perhaps they weren't saying the truth and showing a kosher one while using problematic ones. (Obviously if there aren't any non kosher ones used there would be little cause for this concern.)

This week's Voice has R Aurbach of the KSA bashing R Mehlman from the NKS for certifying Playa Bwols in Howell.

I found this very odd, as R Mehlman is considered quite reliable by those who know him. (My family was from the West Side and relies on his hechsher). He is definitely not a Mehadrin hechsher - he has his kulos- but he is reliable and on top of the situation.  That's why he writes, for example, strawberries aren't certified. You need to read the sign. But he has a mashgiach checking the place out.

It may not be Lakewood standards, but again, it's chalav Stam as it is. Attacking him for certifying a kosher place seems odd.

Auerbach should go after LKO if he wants to attack anyone in Lakewood. Mehlman is a far more reliable alternaitve.

On that topic, he has a tshuva where he permits olive oil that was stored in barrels smeared with pig lard. He assumes it’s taam lfgam in the oil.

Remember that several products are acceptable even without a hechsher. So, the product in question will determine its necessity.

A humorous way to describe an untrustworthy hechsher is: "It's a suitable certification for water."

I guess Rita's and Joseph and David advertise in the voice and playa bowls does not

(more likely they don't want to start up with Rabbi Yofee or Rabbi Neustadt and don't have that concern with Rabbi Mehlman)
