761 new cases, 41 deaths. Looks deadly.

Today's update on the numbers: 61,723 tests were performed yesterday. 805 tests came back positive (1.3% of total). Total hospitalizations fell to 951. Sadly, there were 14 COVID fatalities yesterday.

You're right. And it's been the exception, not the rule. The point is, that's not how the virus works and not how the numbers should be looked at. I think you'd agree with that?

A lot of the data currently is weird because deaths definitely have dropped to 6-700 a day even with the rise in cases over the last ten days.


It’s hard to judge the numbers from NY because a lot of the people dying now have been intubated for months..

It's just better treatment,new and better drugs. Less intubation etc.

Now, nyt says 43% of all us death's are nursing home related.

If they can continue to have the virus hit primarily younger people like it is currently doing that would be fantastic. Short of a vaccine that is a best case scenario. Keep the elderly and vulnerable home and let the virus sweep through the younger population and you will see far better outcomes than what we saw in the Northeast. Of course time will tell if older people in these States are hit hard as well.

The old people are getting hit harder than before. It’s just that young people make up a bigger percentage of the increases. So when the US hits new records every day we can celebrate that the amount of old people getting sick is only doubling, not tripling, instead of basically going down to zero like every other country in the world.

Although some people report getting hit very lightly, at the level of a common cold or lighter. There are many younger people that report days of aches and pains. Some still have trouble breathing weeks and months later. And we don't know any long term effects.

I can think of some better options if they were trying to start a second wave. Introduce an infectious person into one of these situations. Have the people who were careful all along and still are and didn’t get infected fully integrate.

At this point, no one is insisting it anymore. There had been concern for months when there was little known about immunity. However, currently most (Lakewood) doctors believe there is some form of "mass" immunity which is keeping any possible spread down to a minimum.


I am personally of the opinion that we should take advantage of the current calm and allow people to "stretch their legs", before a possible resurgence if/when immunity wears off (see latest from Crown Heights on this).


Additionally, I have strong doubts that it will ever spread as quickly as it did the first time around since we now have better testing and more awareness amongst doctors and patients.

What I'm trying to understand.

Why are they even talking about a second wave in the winter? With flu you can see it coming already now and they get working on a vaccine, based on the flu in the southern hemisphere winter.
Why specifically winter, if they fear an eventual new strain? It's not like anywhere in the world has seen a confirmed new strain until now.
Also, if they are afraid about immunity wearing off before the fall arrives again, why aren't we seeing confirmed reinfections in SE Asia, where this has been around now for a half year? If it wears off after any period, we should have warning.

No. But I do find it fascinating that other congregate settings across NY (Cuomo presented 4 today) led to a large amount of infections. Yet bli iyan hara so far there have been mass congregations in our communities with no distancing at all and nothing has happened.
